If you use Thunderbird or Mozilla mail on your desktop:
NOTE: If you use another mail client, you'll need to search for these settings. We provide details for our supported mail clients below:
Determine whether or not you're using POP or IMAP settings. You can find out by opening Thunderbird:
Choose Tools and Account Settings
On the right side of the window under Server Settings, the Server Type will say either 'POP' or 'IMAP'
If you have POP settings, you don't need to make any changes.
If you have IMAP settings, you'll need to click on the 'Advanced...' button (shown in the image above) toward the lower right corner of the screen.
In the 'IMAP server directory' box, remove the word 'mail', then click on the ok button.
If you find that your folders are missing in Thunderbird:
Your folders are safe. You'll need to "subscribe" to the folder in order to show them in your folder list. In Thunderbird, select the "Subscribe" option under the "File" menu. It will show you a list of your folders. Just check the ones you want to have displayed and they'll be along the left side of your window once again.
If you use Webmail exclusively (or occasionally):
Things you need to know or do:
- Address books will not be moved to the new system. You may want to archive your existing mail in order to export your address books from the old system and import them into the new system. Go to the Online Toolkit page or directly to https://epass.plu.edu/secured/cgi-bin/archive_email.pl to archive your email in the old Webmail system. For another option and more detailed instructions, go here.
- Distribution or mailing lists will need to be re-created in the new webmail system.
- For a period of time, you can still log in to your old email account. Your old mail will be read-only but you will be able to view it as well as your old mailing lists. You'll enter the following in your browser's address window:
http://oldwebmail.plu.edu- When you first use the new Webmail service, you may notice that folders you created using Webmail are not displayed. Don't be concerned--they are just fine. To display some or all of your folders, choose the "Folders" option at the top of the page. At the bottom of this page will be a box labeled "Unsubscribe/Subscribe" with lists of your subscribed and unsubscribed folders. Highlight some or all of your folders and click on "Subscribe". Then click on the "Refresh Folders" option within this same page to display folders you are subscribed to along the left side of the browser window.
