Throughout the academic year various
university organizations sponsor and promote programs designed to educate the
campus community in issues related to crime prevention and personal safety.
Campus Safety, Residential Life, Heath Services, ASPLU, and others organize and
present programs at various campus locations.
Past programs have included:
The Residential Life staff has been responsible for
numerous safety programs in the past year. These programs have been directed
toward resident students as well as commuter students and the community at
large. Programs addressed drug awareness, self-defense, and general safety
issues. Sexual assault programs have addressed rape awareness, including
acquaintance rape.
New student orientation, international student
orientation, and resident orientation each include security and personal safety
discussions detailing potential problems and basic common sense guidelines for
prevention.
Each semester, Campus Safety administrators give
presentations in each residence hall that address issues of safety and security
specific to living on campus. These presentations include information on
personal safety and protecting property, and encourage students to be
responsible for their own security and the security of others. These
presentations also include information on preventing sexual assaults. Similar
programs are offered to staff and faculty.
