Carpool Program
Objective To
reduce the number of vehicles coming to campus and in an effort to 1)
alleviate parking demand and 2) to meet our state mandated goals to
reduce vehicle miles traveled and the number of single occupancy
vehicle trips to our worksite.
Philosophy
The PLU carpool program should establish clear benefits to the
employee and/or student as an incentive for choosing to carpool over
driving alone.
Eligibility
Employees or commuter students that carpool to PLU three or
more days per week and have two or more carpool members are eligible
for a carpool parking pass. Commuter students must live outside
of specific boundaries which are: SR512 on the North, Spanaway Loop Rd.
on the West, 131st St. South on the South and A St. on the East.
Pass
A single carpool pass will be issued to each carpool group. This must be passed from driver to driver.
Use of Other Parking Spaces
Individuals who participate in a carpool as defined under Eligibility
may only park in designated carpool spaces or overflow spaces.
The overflow spaces may be used when carpool spaces are full or on days
the carpool members drive individually (up to 2 days per week).
Overflow spaces are located in the Olson and Rieke/MBR lots.
Non-Business Hours
From 5:00 PM to 7:00 AM carpool spaces shall be available for any person to park.
Expiration
Carpool passes are renewed annually.
Parking Tickets
Unauthorized people who park in carpool spaces will receive a
non-reducible ticket in the amount of $30. Carpoolers who park in
spaces that are not carpool or overflow spaces will receive a ticket in
the amount of $20. Employees or students with expired carpool
passes will be ticketed.
Guaranteed Ride Home Program
Carpool members shall have a guaranteed ride home should they
or a family member become ill or experience some other emergency
situation. Campus Safety will arrange transportation.
