University Theatre
Student Miranda Hill dances in the production of “Brigadoon,” a musical about a pair of young hunters who find themselves in an 18th century highland village.

Theatre
Within a university where grief abounds, joy is abundant, and diversity is celebrated, the outlet of theater is needed. The classic 1950s Neo-Gothic architecture is distinct and Eastvold auditorium is one of the first public venues for PLU students and guests.
"The idea therefore
becomes, Eastvold as a "hot shop" for arts. That means that the theatre
program has an opportunity to integrate the process of creation
(courses in classrooms held in the space next to the shop and the
studio such that students in a class can move back and forth among the
teaching spaces during a class session and that visitors could see
every aspect of the production of art by just walking from classroom,
to rehearsal space, to shop, to performance space). The idea that the
arts are a total experience." -Ed Inch, Interim Dean of the School of
the Arts
Theatre faculty will be located in the same building as the theatre stage and future black box/studio theatre. This will allow them to spend more time in their teaching arena and give students better access to their faculty.
The renewed Eastvold Auditorium will provide an arena for speakers' forums and outlying office and classroom areas as a place for breakout sessions.
