How we work

The Digital Media Center staff is here to provide on-the-project instruction in the various topics of digital media supported in the lab. Staff will not complete assignments, projects, or objectives for you; they will assist you at all stages as needed. Please do not hesitate to ask for help.

In order to keep the DMC computers running as smoothly as possible, the DMC staff has set forth the following guidelines to govern their use. Please abide by them, and please ask Layne Nordgren (x7197) if you have any questions.

Lab policies

  • Do not install, reinstall, or uninstall software. If there is a specific program that you may need, please talk to Nick Butler (x8728) about it.
  • Do not move, remove, attach, or reconfigure hardware. Digital cameras, USB storage drives, and similar devices are allowed.
  • There is a 'lost and found' shelf in the lab. Anything left in the lab will end up there.
  • The phone in the lab may be used by lab patrons, but please ask before using it.
  • There is no food or drink permitted in the labs.
  • The Digital Media Center is open and staffed 6 days/week when school is in session. Please consult our online schedule for up-to-date lab hours [URL].
  • The Digital Media Center is closed to all users during university holidays.
  • The Digital Media Center is a production lab with limited availability. You should not use the lab for computing tasks easily accomplished in other university labs - checking email, browsing the Web, and word processing are a few examples of inappropriate use.
  • Using DMC computers implies acceptance of the University Computer Use Policy. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact Layne Nordgren at x7197 or layne.nordgren@plu.edu
  • No lab hardware or software may be used for commercial production work.
  • At this time, printing can only be paid for via cash or check - no Lutecards or student accounts.
  • No printing of word documents unless they contain pictures or graphics.
