Managing Change

Managing Change

College has definitely taught me the importance of having the ability to manage change. I have lived in Lacey, WA since the age of five; therefore, change was not something that I really had to deal with. I knew that college was my opportunity for change. Making the decision to attend Occidental College in Los Angeles was probably the biggest decision I ever had to make. I knew nobody in the huge city of Los Angeles, with the closet family members over six hours away. It was a completely different scene then the small town of Lacey, where I felt as though I knew everyone. It was scary, but exciting. I was finally on my own and I loved it. Unfortunately, I found that Occidental did not offer the courses I was looking for.

Now it was time for another change. Transferring colleges right before my junior year of college was a risky decision. I still wanted to graduate in four year, but I knew I was going to be behind all of the other Business and Marketing majors in my class. I was not going to let change stop me from reaching my goals. After taking full course loads every semester, along with summer January Term courses, hard work has brought me close to reaching my goal. On May 25, 2008, my goal of combating change will be reached. On May 25th, I will graduate from Pacific Lutheran University.

Alan Cohen:

"It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power."
