Bachelor of Arts in Education
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are you guaranteed admission to the School of Education if you fulfill the minimum requirements?
A: No, the School of Education is very competetive and a limited number
of spaces are available each semester in each program. These spaces are
given to the most qualified individuals from the applicant pool.
Q: Can students apply after the deadline has passed?
A: Yes, the School of Education has a rolling admission policy.
However, priority is given to the applications received by the priority
deadline.
Q: Can a student apply more than once?
A: Yes, students who are not admitted are welcome to reapply.
Q: How long does it take to graduate?
A: The professional education sequence is 4 semesters, not including
summer and J-Term. The last semester is full-time student teaching and
does not offer time for additional course work. Depending on major(s)
and minor(s) and other university requirements students might complete
the program in two years (4 semesters). Music and PE, and Special
Education majors generally should plan on spending at least an
additional semester at PLU.
Q: How do I register for education courses?
A: Upon acceptance to the School of Education students will receive a
letter of admission stating the courses for which students need to
register. The School of Education will code students' information,
allow them to register for education courses. Only students admitted to
the School of Education can register for these courses.
Q: Do ART 341 and MUSI 341 cover the Art, Music, and Theatre GUR?
A: This substitution may only be granted by submitting the appropriate "Request for Exception to Academic Requirements" form signed by the SOAC dean and your academic adviser. See Tony Aho for further information.
Q: Does PHED 322 fulfill the Physical Activity GUR?
A: No, this is not considered an "activity" course and does not fulfill the GURs.
Q: Can CORE II courses apply to the education program? A: Yes, INTC 222 is equivalent to Psych 101 and INTC 243 is equivalent to a life science.
Q: Can a student get credits transferred into the School of Education and fulfill professional sequence requirements?
A: Our program here at PLU is highly integrated building related
experiences upon one another throughout the professional sequence.
However, we will make every effort to analyze transcriptes to determine
course equivalencies. Determination of courses transferred into the
School of Education is made on a course by course basis by the
Administrative Manager in cooperation with the Associate Dean in the
School of Education, and evaluators in the Registrar's Office.
Q: Are there any School of Education scholarships available?
A: There are a limited number of scholarships available to education
majors. These scholarships are awarded by the Financial Aid office. For
more information, please contact PLU's Student Services Center.
Q: Will changes made by the state government effect me?
A: Until you are formally admitted to the School of Education, you are
subject to any state or program changes that may occur. Once admitted,
you remain under those requirements until you complete your program.
Our faculty and advisors will keep you updated, or consult the OSPI website.
