About MeMy name is Vanessa Edwards and I am a Sophomore I nursing student at Pacific Lutheran University. I was drawn into nursing by my Mom who displayed enthusiasm and satisfaction while working in various health care settings as a nurse. It was after I heard from her how rewarding being a nurse was that I decided to follow in her footsteps and enroll in nursing school. Like her, I wanted the opportunity to care for patients, families, and communities as a Registered Nurse. Goals for the Future Five Year: My goals within the next five years is to become a Registered Nurse, and be employed as a community health nurse where I can promote health and prevent disease among various aggregates. Personal Definition of NursingMy personal definition encompasses some aspects of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) definition. I found it to be very similar to what I currently believe nursing entails.My definition will most likely evolve through my professional nursing education and experiences. Nursing is applying knowledge and practice to provide holistic care for individuals, families, groups, and communities. Nurses play an integral role in maintaining and promoting physical, mental, and emotional health, preventing illness and caring for the ill and dying. |

One Year: My goals for the upcoming year is successful completion of my nursing courses, to join Delta Iota Chi, and to obtain a nurse tech position at a nearby hospital in order to apply the skills that I have learned so that I can gain experience.
