Internships

For your internship to count as credit
toward your degree you MUST
have a learning
agreement signed by your faculty sponsor and your internship
supervisor before starting
your internship experience.
|
|
For all majors, an
internship and successful completion of ENVT 495 or equivalent
internship course is required, either as
a part of the Capstone project or as a separate experience.
|
- Internships can be developed to fit individual
student programs. To begin the process, consider your own interests. What do you care about
most? Trust your passion for a moment, and seek an internship
that helps you develop it. Also consider networks that may
connect you to prospective employers. For help with getting
started, see this
page from the good people at Cooperative Education. Read
through this page! It contains useful information for receiving
credit, figuring out your responsibilities, and other essentials.
- Contact the internship coordinator for for the
Environmental Studies program. During the 2005-6 academic year,
contact Sid Olufs in the
Political Science Department. If he is insensate or dead, contact
the program Chair, Duane Swank.
- Find the internship that is right for you. A
collection of internship information is found outside the office of the
ENVT chair, Duane Swank (RCTR 244). Also check the Cooperative Education Office.
You
can get help from faculty who specialize in your interest, and the
internship coordinator may be able to help you find the right person to
contact. The people at Cooperative Education put together this
guide to assist you. You
should complete the process
of finding an internship by the beginning of the semester in which you
wish to earn
credit. ENVT Committee members understand that the world
outside
the University does not operate on our schedule, but you are expected
to register for the semester that most closely fits the time from of
your internship. Discuss this with the internship coordinator and
your faculty sponsor.
- Approach the appropriate faculty sponsor for the
internship. Fill out the
learning agreement for the internship, and get
agreement with your employer and faculty sponsor on the different
sections.
- Enjoy this important part of your academic program!
