Membership
: One faculty member from the Division of Humanities representing an international program, curricular component, or off-campus course; one faculty member from the Division of Social Sciences representing an international program, curricular component, or off-campus course; a total of two faculty from two different professional schools representing an international program, curricular component, or off-campus course; one faculty member from the Division of Natural Sciences representing an international program, curricular component, or off-campus course. Members are appointed or elected, at the discretion of the relevant academic units.


Advisory Membership
: Director of the Wang Center for International Programs (non-voting); president (non-voting).


General Purpose
: To work with the constituencies involved with International Education to develop greater coherence and engage in strategic planning for its enhancement, refinement, and visibility at the university and serve as the faculty advisory committee to the Wang Center; to advise the Educational Policies Committee on issues related to international and domestic off-campus courses.


Specific Duties:

  1. To coordinate, encourage, support, review, and assess International Education initiatives including grant projects, faculty development opportunities, new off-campus courses and programs.
  2. To advise the Educational Policies Committee on: (1) the development of educational objectives and desired outcomes for international off-campus courses and programs as they relate to PLU's mission and to the Integrated Learning Objectives passed by the faculty in May of 1999; (2) the development of guidelines and a mechanism for review and approval for international off-campus courses and programs; (3) the development of educational objectives, guidelines, and a mechanism for review and approval for domestic off-campus courses and programs because they share distinct qualities with international off-campus courses; and (4) the standardization of program and student evaluation procedures of off-campus courses and programs.
  3. To provide academic oversight and general guidance by acting as the advisory committee to the Wang Center for International Programs, to include program review and evaluation responsibilities.
  4. At the conclusion of a three-year period, to provide recommendations to the faculty and the administration regarding the oversight, design, and administrative structure of International Education at the university.

Chair: The committee's chair will be elected by the committee's members from the committee's membership.

Chair's duties: The chair's primary duties will be to chair the ad hoc Faculty Committee for International Education, to act as liaison to the Director of the Wang Center for International Programs and to the Chair of the Educational Policies Committee, and to report to, or otherwise engage, the faculty on appropriate issues raised by the Faculty Committee for International Education.

Note: The ad hoc Faculty Committee for International Education will cease to function on May 31, 2006, in accordance with Article IV, Section 4, Subsection 4a(b) of the Bylaws to the Faculty Constitution.
