Welcome back!
Well, it's that time again! Fall Faculty conference is soon upon us. As you make the adjustment from the [more or less] lazy days of summer to the fall routine, take a few minutes to catch up on news from the University Scholars Association [USA], where PLU faculty and staff come together for food, fun, and intellectual development. 

We do call it the Faculty House, but remember that membership is open to all University employees who have half-time or greater positions. Membership numbers at the beginning of the academic year are always in a state of flux, but by some time last year we were over 200 for the first time in the history of the organization. Keep up the good work recruiting new members--that new person in your department is candidate numero uno.

Remodeling...

Over the summer we fixed the kitchen floor [a water leak created a serious rot problem] and we have replaced the aging [pun intended] beer cooler in the basement. The cooler had given us fits several times last year.

Fall Barbeque
Our Fall BBQ will be held on Friday, September 14th. As usual, we'll  put on our best aprons and grill burgers, vegi-burgers and hot dogs to your order. We'll have tables set up outside (weather permitting). This is a family affair and all are welcome to bring their significant others and children. We will begin to gather around 5:00pm and begin serving by 5:30. We’ll have the usual picnic stuff to go with your burger or hot dog-- tossed salad, potato salad, chips, and Melony's grrrreat brownies for dessert, as well as the usual beverages. 

We hope to see you there. Please invite new colleagues to join us. 

Friday Evening Socials
Our Friday evening socials began on September 7th. Please encourage new colleagues to join you for this opportunity to get acquainted with other folks from across campus.

Other dates: Christmas Brunch will be December 11th and the spring BBQ will be May 9th.

FYI...
Over the summer, your USA Board has updated the policies for use and/or rental of the Faculty House by groups. The policies and a revised contract for rental are at Reservations.

Soup's on!  Join your friends and colleagues in the lunch room for soup or a sandwich and great conversation. Check the lunch menu here. If you plan to have a lunch meeting at the Faculty House, please call Melony the day before so that she can be prepared with extra soup and sandwiches. We encourage all our members to bring new colleagues to lunch. It's a great way to help folks get acquainted with others across campus.

Room reservations: You may reserve a room (or even the entire house for a special event). Contact Kelley Campbell (Ext. 7453) to make reservations. Check the rental policy here.

Wednesday Lunch Program:
Our first Wednesday noon speaker will be on September 12th. If you want to be among our speakers for fall, contact Amanda Feller at 7768 or fellerae@plu.edu.
