POLICY ON PETS IN THE FACULTY HOUSE

The University Scholars Association recognizes the important role of pets in the lives of its members. This document defines the policies within which pet visits to the Association’s facility, the Faculty House, are permitted. The document is based on, and is a selection from, the Pets in the Workplace Policy adopted by Pacific Lutheran University.

For the purposes of this policy, the following definitions apply: Pet Owner is any member of the Association, guest or visitor who brings a pet  to the Faculty House; a Pet is any domestic animal that is owned by and is cared for by a member of the Association. Pets include dogs and cats.

 Areas Where Pets Are Allowed

bulletOutdoors, on leash, and accompanied by pet owner
bullet Other areas when the pet is required for assistance as a designated guide or working pet

Areas Where Pets Are Not Allowed

Pets are generally NOT allowed anywhere inside the Faculty House other than as noted in the previous section. Specifically, pets are not allowed in:

bullet Any area that is open to the general membership and commonly used, such as the living room, library, meeting and conference rooms, and bathrooms
bulletDining and food preparation areas

In the event a member using the Faculty House has a legitimate health problem with a pet’s presence, the pet may not be brought to that area unless it is required for disability accommodation.

Pet Owner Commitment

Pet owners who bring pets to the Faculty House will care for their pets in a manner that ensures the safety and comfort of the Association members as well as the safety of the pet. Dog owners will keep their pets on a leash at all times. If a pet makes a mess of any kind, the owner will clean it up immediately.
