Welcome»

old costume 2Thank you for viewing my portfolio page. This portfolio has been an ongoing adventure as I have been updating it since my sophomore year in the Pacific Lutheran University Bachelor of Science Nursing program. This is a portfolio that represents both my student nursing experiences in the classroom and at clinical sites, as well as my experiences outside of the Nursing program while at PLU. I hope that you enjoy scrolling through my site and learn more about my vision of nursing and learn about the many wonderful experiences I have had as a student at Pacific Lutheran University.

Future Goals »

Sophomore Goals

  • 1 Year Goal: Passed required classes and participate in extracurricular activities at PLU.
  • 5 Year Goal: After completion of the BSN program I am planning to return to active duty as a Naval Nurse.
  • 10 Year Goal: I am planning on applying for an educational program where the Navy will pay for my Graduate work where I would like to aim towards Staff Educator/Trainer.

Senior Goals

  • 1 Year Goal: I am currently finishing up the application process to return to active duty as a Naval Nurse. The application process is trying and currently with the economy new nursing graduates have flooded into the military seeking nursing jobs and so there is somewhat a hiring freeze of entering the Navy as a Naval Nurse Officer. I am currently being told it will be a six to twelve month waiting time before being activated to Active Duty. While waiting I have committed to Graduate School where I will be completing my masters degree of a Master of Science in Nursing:Leadership in Health Care Systems. This is a 16 month full time online program which will be flexible with my future plans of returning to the military.

  • 5 Year Goal: I hope to be active duty by this time and have completed my masters. I am hoping to have a couple of years of RN nursing experience and working towards the opportunity to move into a leadership position in the Navy. I also hope to have completed one shore rotation of assigned orders and hope to be moving my family for an overseas experience.

  • 10 Year Goal: I am planning on returning to school to finish my doctoral degree, and although I know I want to do this I am unsure what I want to pursue for this degree. I am hoping by having ten years nursing experience at this time I would know what I would like to complete it in. I plan on applying for a military educational program to complete this degree.

Nursing Philosophy

The attachment below is my nursing philosophy which was an assignment for self recognition of the philosophy that I have set that will lead and guide my practice. Please review it to learn what my values and opinions that I have selected as being important.

Nursing Philosophy

Art of Nursing:

Nursing is an art:
and if it is to be made an art,
It requires an exclusive devotion
as hard a preparation,
as any painter“s or sculptor“s work;
for what is the having to do with
dead canvas or dead marble,
compared with having to do
with the living body,
the temple of God“s spirit?
It is one of the Fine Arts:
I had almost said,
the finest of Fine Arts.
