Sustainable Food Movements

Ecological

Sustaining our Lives and our Planet

Sustainability means living lives that are conscious of the future.  One grave threat to that future is the current ecological crisis.  Rising water levels, global climate change, growing green-house gas emissions, and an unprecedented lack of biological diversity will have far-reaching negative cgaiaonsequences to our planet and the lives of our children, if not us.
The sustainable foods movement at PLU is a way for the university to focus efforts around not only food-related issues of sustainability but also a number of aspects of life that need to be changed, reduced, and enhanced to cope with the global situation.  "Act locally, think  globally" is a good slogan to represent the movement.  By living locally and investing in our communities we are able to live healthier and more ecologically conscious lives.  And by putting that community in a global context we are able to make more prudent decisions motivated by global issues that affect our local situations everywhere.
