Defining Statement

Organizational Principles
The BELL Core Is the Force Behind the Formula.

The BELL Core is the name of our distinctive General Education curriculum.  (FYI: BELL comes from The B elmont E xperience:
L earning for L ife.)  As you are about to discover, its unique framework boldly underscores our belief in the significance of general education.  At Belmont, General Education is part of the experience shared by every student in every major.

Deep 'learning for life' is a developmental process.  In other words, it occurs in stages, over time, and takes into account the needs, talents and aspirations of each learner.  That premise is central to the BELL Corse.

As you progress through your four years at Belmont, the BELL Core moves in step with you.  Not only does it provide the broad content that directly complements and supports your major, but it also honors and hones your development of more sophisticated and complex abilities.

The human faces you'll encounter at each stage are the creative and innovative faculty members of Belmont - well-known and highly respected for putting student learning first.  Your BELL Core professors will challenge you to do 'hands-on' thinking, to learn by inquiry, and to develop your own strategies for problem solving.  They will expect you to connect what you learn in the BELL Core to what you learn in your major.  They will insist you do your best.  And they will be there for you - inside and outside the classroom.
