Defining Statements:
“Nationally Ranked Academics in a Personal Environment.”
Organizational Principles:
The foundation of Hamline’s liberal arts education is the Hamline Plan, a nationally recognized general education program, that provides students with a set of flexible, goal-oriented, skills and experiences tied directly to graduation requirements. Designed to provide practical applications of a theory-based education, the Hamline Plan requires students to conduct independent studies, participate in internships and apprenticeships, and to develop their skills in such areas as writing, speaking, computing, and cultural awareness. For the student who seeks a truly liberal arts education, the Hamline Plan offers a wide and ever-changing array of learning opportunities.

The nationally recognized Hamline Plan is flexible,
goal-oriented, and designed to provide practical application to a theory based
education. Requirements for independant study; skills development - with
writing, speaking, and computer intensive courses; as well as requirements for
an internship, assistantship, or service-learning project; are all designed
to connect the worlds of work and a Hamline education.
The Hamline Plan consists of the following ten educational goals:
