THE COORDINATING COUNCIL FOR WOMEN IN HISTORY
is now taking requests for applications for the
following two awards:
CCWH/BERKSHIRE CONFERENCE OF WOMEN HISTORIANS
AWARD
and
CCWH/IDA B. WELLS GRADUATE STUDENT AWARD
The Coordinating Council for Women in History and the
Berkshire Conference of Women Historians are pleased to announce the ninth
annual competition for two $500 GRADUATE STUDENT AWARDS to assist
in the completion of dissertation work. The awards are designed to support
either a crucial stage of research or the final year of writing.
CCWH/BERKSHIRE ELIGIBILITY:
The applicant:
-
must be a woman graduate student historian in a history
department in a U.S. institution;
-
must have passed to A.B.D. status by the time of application;
-
may specialize in any field of history;
-
may hold this award and others simultaneously;
-
need not attend the award ceremony to receive the award.
CCWH/IDA B. WELLS ELIGIBILITY:
The applicant:
-
must be a woman graduate student in a U.S. institution;
-
must have passed to A.B.D. status by the time of application;
-
may specialize in any field, but must be working on an historical
project;
-
may hold this award and others simultaneously;
-
need not attend the award ceremony to receive the award.
***History graduate
students automatically will be considered for both awards with one application.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: After receiving the
application form from the address given below, candidates should submit
ALL of the following items in one package to the same address
(faxed or e-mailed documents will not be accepted):

3 copies of the completed application form (with abstract
inside the provided space on the application form).

3 copies of a Curriculum Vitae
-
3 copies of a Statement describing the proposed dissertation
(limit: 3 pages, single-spaced). The statement should discuss the project’s
central argument, its contribution to the field, its methodology and range
of sources, and the author’s timetable for completion.

the signature (on the application form) of a representative
of the applicant’s History Department (or relevant department for the Ida
B. Wells award) verifying that qualifying exams have been passed or that
A.B.D. status has been achieved in some other way.

2 letters of recommendation in sealed envelopes, enclosed
with the candidate’s application. Candidates should ask their recommenders
to include 3 copies of their letters.

a self-addressed, stamped envelope
-
a self-addressed, stamped postcard, with the statement "Your
CCWH/Berkshire graduate student award application has been received."
SELECTION: By a committee of scholars from
diverse fields of history.
TIMETABLE: September 13, 1999: application
packets must be received at the address below by this date.
November 15, 1999: winner announced and check mailed
January, 2000: award is formally presented at the CCWH
luncheon at the AHA.
