So, do you feel a little lost? Don't worry. Most new students do, especially since this is usually their first year of college and they have no idea what is going on. We are here to help and provide you with any answers you might need. If you don't find the answer to your question below, feel free to email Harstad for the answer. Hope you enjoy Pacific Lutheran University as your new college!
| Why Harstad? | Bjug Harstad. He was the PLU founder and president from 1894-1895 and 1897-1898. Harstad Hall is named after him and also formerly housed the entire campus of PLU (classrooms, offices, etc.) |
| What Should I Bring With Me? |
You may think you'll need everything that is sitting and collecting dust in your room. A good packing tip is this : Pack what you think you need, yes even the q-tips you never use. Next, cut that in half. That's right, get rid of half the stuff you think you'll need. Chances are if you live far away your parents will miss you and send you things if you really do forget something important, and if you live close, you can just go get it later right? Things You Do Not Need : Desk/desk chair, bookshelf, mirror, bed, dresser, etc. Most furniture is included in the room. Suggested Items : Bedding, computer/electronics, clothes, music, tv, fridge, miscellaneous items, etc. |
| Who Do We Complain To About Stuff? | Usually your RA if you may be having problems with your roommate, appliances that were in your room when you got there, and any other concerns. They can usually tell the right people and your problems will get fixed as soon as possible. Yay RA's! |
| What Happens If We Get In Trouble? | If you do anything that is against PLU's Policies you can get in trouble. Usually your RA or Campus Safety with these occurences and handles them appropriately. Check the Campus Safety website for more information. Remember, PLU is a "dry campus". |
| Where Can We Get Food On Campus? | There are three places you can go. The UC (University Commons) which is located in the same building as the Bookstore and across from Harstad near the clock tower. Then there is The Bistro which is across the street from the tennis courts. Last there is The Coffee Shop which is in the same building as the Commons, but is downstairs near the Diversity Center. |
| Where Are The Bathrooms? | Each floor has at least one bathroom on each wing that you share with the rest of your floor. Don't worry, it isn't as bad as it sounds. |
| Do We Have A Curfew? | Not exactly. However, in Harstad all males must be out of any rooms by 2am. Also quiet hours start usually around 10pm so we can be considerate of people with early classes or those studying for tests and finals. |
| What is an RA? | An RA is an Residential Assistant that is assigned to each wing and is going to school just like you are. They are there to talk to, and to hang out with. They can help you with things if you ask them nicely and will gladly take the time to listen to your concerns and hang out with you and the rest of your hall |
| What is Harstad Hall Council? | Hall Council is made of several differing positions, such as President, Christian Activities Leader, and Intramural Sports Coordinator that enable you (when election packets are available) to pick the Hall Theme, coordinate activities and just make the hall a better place. Email us at harstad@plu.edu to contact this year's Hall Council, and look soon for the opportunity to maybe even join it this year! |
