Natalie Herzing's Nursing Portfolio

Welcome to my Digital Portfolio!

Thank you for visiting my web-based nursing portfolio!  First, let me tell you a little about myself....

I was first drawn to the nursing profession while working as an Emergency Medical Technician.  Shortly after graduating from the University of Washington in 2000 with a degree in Psychology, I moved to Texas craving new experiences and hungry for a different direction.  My plan was to work for my uncle's ambulance service while contemplating an area of graduate study.  Graduate study never came however, as I quickly learned my passion for the health field.  After becoming a paramedic in Texas, I began a paramedic-to-nursing bridge program which I later found out would not be endorsed by Washington State.  Knowing I wanted to return to my home state, I had no choice but to withdraw from the program, move home and start from scratch.  I was accepted in to PLU's BSN nursing program shortly after returning home and have been enjoying it ever since!!  I look forward to the semesters ahead as I explore my passions, expand my knowledge of nursing and patient care, and prepare myself for rewarding career in service.

In examining desirable characteristics of a nursing professional, I have identified in myself areas in which I could use improvement.  I plan to embrace my weaknesses and through continued education, the guidance of others and personal growth, I am confident in my ability to shift my weaknesses to strengths.
  • I need to focus on identifying with and becoming an active member of community organizations.
  • I would like to gain the skills necessary to place myself in situations in which I have the opportunity to mentor other students.
  • I would like to gain the skills necessary to identify task priorities and effectively delegate in a respectful and assertive manner.
  • Through continued education, active research, experience and employment of knowledge I hope to contribute to the expansion of nursing's body of knowledge.
  • Through guidance and mentoring, I hope to continue to gain the confidence and drive to provide leadership in various settings.
