The
Raphael Lemkin Lecture and Essay Contest
Dedicated to the man who named “the crime with no name”.
The Division of Social Sciences at PLU organizes an annual lecture
on the topic of genocide, as well as an essay contest that honors
the best student work on genocide. Both the annual lecture and
essay contest are named in honor of Mr. Raphael Lemkin, who coined
the term "genocide" and labored for passage of the United Nations
genocide convention, which outlaws destruction of races and
groups.
The lecture and essay contest are supported by the Division of
Social Sciences, History faculty member Dr. Robert Ericksen, Mr.
Donald R. Morken, Mr. Bruce Littman, and the Raphael Lemkin Trust,
founded by Mr. Irving Young of Haifa, Israel.
