FT; Mon-Fri, 8am – 5pm; occasional evening and weekend work is also required.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Serves as an academic advisor
to specified first-year and continuing students who are undecided or in
transition. Will also work extensively with students experiencing
academic difficulty (academic warning, probation, etc.) May serve as a
mentor to select students.
- Available as a resource regarding academic advising to PLU faculty and staff.
- Teach two or more sections of educational/career planning classes and/or study skills.
- Takes an active part in the planning and implementation of new student registration.
- Develops advising informational materials, including the Advising Newsletter, for faculty, staff and students.
- Develops and maintains the Academic Advising website as well as the online version of advising related materials.
- Collaborates with other offices in the Ramstad Commons.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills.
- Good understanding of liberal arts education.
- General understanding of student development theory and practice.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database applications and website software.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Two years job-related experience in advising or another student service area in a higher education setting.
- Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Prior work with students experiencing academic difficulty.
- Experience with Banner educational software.
