General Description
Provide leadership,
organization and supervision for all aspects of the women’s softball
program to ensure a highly competitive and successful program. PLU is
a member of the Northwest Conference and a NCAA Division III
institution. This position reports to the Director of Athletics.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, organization and supervision for all aspects of the women’s softball program to ensure a highly competitive and successful program, following all NCAA Division III, Northwest Conference and university rules and regulations.
- Hire, train and supervise part-time coaches for the women’s softball program.
- Prepare and manage annually the women’s softball budget following purchasing and spending guidelines as set by the University and athletics department.
- Schedule all competitive events and complete all travel arrangements.
- Coordinate off season training programs.
- Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
- Identify, attract and matriculate outstanding student-athletes to the University.
- Develop positive public relations with all internal and external constituents.
- Other duties as assigned including teaching activity classes in the Department of Movement Studies and Wellness Education.

- Clear understanding and knowledge of the sport of softball to develop a highly competitive program.
- Excellent organizational, planning supervisory and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong recruiting, teaching and coaching skills.
- Computer proficiency.
- Personnel management and supervision experience.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide variety of students,
parents, alumni, faculty, departmental staff, administration and the
general public.
- Must be able to build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes and athletics alumni.
- Must have a clear understanding of and be committed to the NCAA
Division III philosophy and the role of athletics within a private,
liberal arts University.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Three years of successful women’s softball coaching experience.
- CPR/First Aid certification required and may be obtained on the job.
- Valid Driver’s License (Must have had a valid driver’s license for at least 2yrs).
- Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check, pass PLU’s internal Driver’s Certification Training, and provide an original copy of their Driving Record (5yr Employment Abstract).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Previous coaching and recruiting experience at the NCAA Division III level is highly desirable.
