General Description
Manage the PLU Help Desk, providing initial point of contact for University faculty, staff and students in support of the use of technology and appropriate referral for library resources. Reports to the Director of User Support.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Support
- Initial point of contact for support of computing, telephone or network needs.
- Develop and demonstrate understanding of customer needs.
- Assist customers in trouble-shooting computer problems.
- Enter requests in the Help Desk call-tracking system.
- Provides appropriate referral to other designated departments.
- Management
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise 20+ student workers.
- Maintain departmental student worker records, time card submittal and associated databases.
- Miscellaneous
- Work with Reference librarians to ensure appropriate student training in helping to provide quality reference service.
- Perform clerical duties including, but not limited to: ordering office supplies, campus mail distribution to department staff and maintaining vendor files.
- Collaborate with networking, telecommunication and other support staff, monitoring customers request resolution.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Intermediate experience with Windows XP and standard applications in Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007. Keyboarding proficiency.
- General hardware and software trouble-shooting knowledge.
- Ability to remain calm during times of increased activity in the department and maintain a healthy sense of humor.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Three years job-related experience in a customer service environment. Related education may substitute for some exp.
- Experience in computer hardware and software support.
- Experience in supervising and training.
- Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a library setting.
- Bachelor's degree in the fields of Computer Science, Psychology, Business, or Education.
