General Description
Assist in providing coverage for 20 intercollegiate teams. Depending on qualifications, interests and abilities, other duties as assigned may include teaching classes in the Department of Movement Studies and Wellness Education. PLU is a member of the Northwest Conference and a NCAA Division III institution. This position reports to the Director of Athletics.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Assist in administering a quality co-ed Sports Medicine Program for intercollegiate sports.
- Provide care to all student-athletes including prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.
- Manage the athletic training room during regular office hours; referring injuries to the appropriate medical facilities.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate athletic injury care records and
reports as required following all NCAA, HIPPA, and NATA guidelines.
- Monitor pre-existing health conditions of student-athletes involved in intercollegiate athletics.
- Provide medical services during games and practices, home and
away, throughout the regular school year and vacation periods whenever necessary.
- Responsible for communicating to student-athletes and coaches the Department’s health insurance policies.
- Provide general athletic training room services.
- Other related administrative and committee duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent organizational, supervisory and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Computer proficiency.
- Experience in budgetary and supervisory endeavors associated with athletic training.
- Multiple activity coordination and simultaneous project management.
- Ability to work business and extended hours, including some evening and weekends, is required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- One year experience in athletic training.
- NATABOC certification required.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification required.
- Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Understanding of and
commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of
athletics within a private, liberal arts university.
