New Interlibrary Loan System-ILLiad
10-17-2007

The new interlibrary loan system will require first time users to
register, but thereafter when you log on you will be able to initiate
loans, view outstanding orders, request renewals, and download your
articles. And when you make a request, ILLiad (as we've dubbed it)
will automatically insert your name and contact information.

We are excited by this significant enhancement of library services,
and we think you will be as well. Point your browser to
http://www.plu.edu/~libr/ to see the new site and to take ILLiad for a
test run!

Updates: Ongoing network upgrade project, enhanced wireless access, and guest registration
10-17-2007

1.
Last summer Information & Technology Services implemented the first phase of a major upgrade to the PLU campus network. Network access control, intrusion detection, and intrusion response systems were installed, anti-virus software for all became mandatory, and several network switches were replaced around campus.

Phase two of this multi-year project was done this summer as the following buildings received new networking hardware
> University Center
> Mortvedt Library
> Hauge Hall
> Xavier Hall
> Mary Baker Russell Hall
> Memorial Gymnasium
> Rieke Science Center

The benefits of this upgrade will include better performance, improved reliability, and increased capacity for network connections.

2.
Within the next few months the wireless network will also be upgraded in most of the buildings listed, providing better coverage and performance, improved roaming capabilities, and central management of this increasingly important service.

3.
A by-product of the network upgrade project is more convenient guest access. Anyone visiting campus may now self-register a wireless computer (through Gatekeeper) that will remain registered until 4 a.m. the next day. The guest may repeat once-daily registrations for the duration of the visit. Sponsored guest registration for longer durations and/or (e.g., a visiting speaker, a group of conferees for multiple days) will soon be available. We need yet to do a bit of work on the Gatekeeper registration page, and need still to create an information sheet for general distribution, but we thought you’d like to know that basic guest registration is now available.
