J.D. HaugerJ.D. Hauger

Digital Media Developer, Digital Media Center

J.D. Hauger enjoys a broad range of digital media technology. His experience with dot-coms, video production, and speaking about his experiences gives him a unique perspective with Internet technology. With both personal and professional lives encountering - indeed, embracing -- frequent change, J.D. regularly explores new frontiers while seeking new modes of knowing and doing.

J.D.'s family lived in San Antonio, Texas, when he was born, then moved to Pennsylvania while he was eight years old. He later attended Penn State for a while. Then in the heyday of the dot-coms, he changed the course of his life by joining a start-up technology firm that created online, local auction and e-commerce applications for university communities across the nation. While developing marketing campaigns for small- and medium-sized businesses, he discovered a skill set for conveying ideas and concepts via interactive media. One thing led to another, of course, and after a time J.D. made a leap into digital communication support for the space flight parts engineer for the Penn State department of Astronomy and Astrophysics.

While developing digital communication for engineers, J.D. became enchanted by streaming media networking concepts, and decided to apply his skills toward music marketing via webcasting on the Internet. So before long he and a business partner answered the siren song of the Eugene-Springfield Chamber of Commerce. They leapt clear across the country into their own start-up, a live Internet radio broadcasting and live concert webcasting company. When the prospects of entertainment webcasting revenue began to lag, J.D. began serious web development that in time led to a position with the Museum of Glass -- located in a part of the world he finds intriguing and full of opportunities to indulge his interest in new digital media technologies.

These days J.D. is a web developer and multimedia lab manager in the Digital Media Lab, with ample opportunity to engage his skills and natural inquisitiveness in a variety of challenging ways. He finds new challenges from a wide variety of sources at the Digital Media Center, and seldom goes home bored!
