Acquisitions Technician
While growing up it was mostly squirrels, cats, and a dog. Now it’s two
dogs, three cats, and nine parrots, three of which speak. Between the
squirrels and the parrots, Pam Coury studied in Mexico, attended three
Washington colleges, raised a son, and worked nearly two decades at
Boeing when not volunteering at zoos and pet stores.
What’s next for Pam? Given her love and respect for all life,
intensified by a recent medical episode that made her even more keenly
aware of the frailty of life, chances are her future will involve more
animals, more travel, and a whole lot more people.
While Pam is a gregarious person and truly values her interaction with
colleagues in Library Technical Services and our students and faculty at
the circulation desk, right now she has more than a little fascination
with the intelligence and psychology of birds. “They develop
cognitively as they age,” she says with wonder, “and you can see their
personalities change as they age, especially the talking parrots!”
Born in California, Pam moved to Washington after first grade when her
parents, both Washington natives, moved back to Renton. After high
school she attended Central Washington, Western Washington, and Seattle
universities. Then while working in the real world for a financial
planner, she took computer and business classes before connecting with
Boeing in 1985.
Animals, education, and libraries. All have been life-long passions for
Pam. There may or may not be a common denominator among them, but it
really doesn’t matter in the end. All who work with Pam enjoy her
presence and value the experiences she brings to enrich our community.
