My Digital Portfolio

My name is Britta Jepsen and I am currently a sophomore in the School of Nursing at Pacific Lutheran University.  Although it requires a lot of work and I spend most of my time studying, I am thoroughly enjoying this experience and feel privileged to be a part of the program. Nursing has been a goal of mine since I completed a interview and job shadow as part of my high school curriculum.  It was from this experience I learned that I wanted to become a nurse.  Serving people has been something that I have done all of my life, coming from very generous parents with a heart for those around them.  My father served on the city council in Shoreline, WA for more than 10 years along with holding positions on many other boards and committees throughout our neighborhood.  My mother has always volunteered for PTA, various boards and will always do what she can to serve those around her.  I thank my parents for instilling this love for serving others in me which helped me realize nursing was something I wanted to pursue.

I am currently working towards the seven outcomes listed, but because I am only a sophomore, I have not completed any of them and some have not been started.  I look forward to continuing to work on them throughout the next two years of the program.

My philosophy of nursing: I feel that nursing is a patient-centered, care-oriented process that involves concern for all aspects of a patient; not only their physical needs but also the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the person.  Nursing seeks to care for and treat but also to promote healthy behaviors and prevent illness.

My coat of arms shows what I believe is important to nursing at this point in my schooling.  I feel that hands of service, a caring heart, knowledge and compassion are all integral parts of nursing.
