Staff

We will be glad to assist you in learning to operate equipment and/or producing instructional materials. Layne Nordgren and Gene Gatlin specialize in providing multimedia support services. Staff are available Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For extensive assistance we appreciate appointments so we can effectively schedule our time. Multimedia
Production
Services

If you need multimedia support for your classwork and presentations, you might consider using our media production services which include:

  • Designing presentation graphics
  • Producing legible and colorful transparencies
  • Generating slides from computer files using a digital film recorder
  • Scanning flat materials to digital files, diskettes, and printers using a flatbed scanner
  • Scanning slides to digital files, diskettes, and printers using a slide scanner
  • Creating and producing posters
  • Producing web pages
  • Copying materials to slides using a copy stand
  • Capturing audio and video

Media Services staff will assist you in converting your ideas into high-quality products for your presentations. Charges are assessed for labor and supplies.

Visual Production

We make every effort to meet your needs, yet insure a quality product. Below are sample timelines for slide and transparency production.

Multimedia Tools
and Workstations

 

If you are the do-it-yourself type, our Multimedia Production area contains equipment and supplies for making multimedia products. Equipment includes multimedia workstations, flatbed scanners, slide scanner, audio recording equipment, video capture tools, slide copy stand and camera, and laminating/drymounting presses.

Output equipment includes a transparency maker, laser printers, color printers, and a digital film recorder. Media Services staff will instruct and assist you in using the equipment to produce and use your multimedia materials. Charges are assessed for any consumable supplies.

Software: PhotoShop and PhotoDeluxe imaging software, PowerPoint presentation software, PageMill web page software, Netscape and Word word processor.
Language Resource Center Presentation Macintosh #1
Hardware: HP ScanJet flatbed scanner, sound and video capture
Software: PhotoShop and PhotoDeluxe imaging software, OmniScan Lite optical character recognition (OCR) software, PowerPoint presentation software, Word word processor, PageMill web authoring tool, Netscape, and VideoShop movie software.
Language Resource Center Macintoshes (2)
Software: PageMill web authoring tool, PhotoShop LE imaging software, and and Word word processor.

These resources are available to current students, faculty, and staff; a current PLU ID card is required. You can book these resources by calling (253) 535-7509 or by coming to the Media Services Desk in the Library.

Equipment
Reservations/Bookings
and Projection Services

A wide variety of media equipment is available for use in PLU classes or in the Group Listening/Viewing room. Reservations can be made at the Media Services Desk for media equipment, computer projectors, computer workstations, and media projection services. Camcorders, digital camera, computer projectors, and laptop computers are available for reservations. Reservations are recommended, especially near the end of semesters. We can also deliver and pickup slide, overhead, and video playback equipment to classrooms for your class presentations. A 24 hour advance notice is appreciated for all projection services.
