Definition Of Nursing

Nursing involves an individual who is loving, appreciative, hardworking, flexible, understanding, personable, devoted to patient's health, and dedicated to caring for others.  Nursing is a profession that is changing and adapting to ever new situations. As Virginia Henderson puts it, nursing needs to be a holistic approach.  Nursing seeks to involve science, pharmacology, the patient, psychology in a way that is care-oriented and practice-based.

  • Dedication is an aspect of nursing that is needed for nurses to give the time and respect that every patient deserves.  It is about being dedicated to make a difference in every patient's life.
  • Love is what needs to be shown to the patients and their families. Love makes any situation better and more comfortable for a patient.
  • Service in nursing is about serving your community and patients.  Service is a very important part of nursing because the nurses have the role of educating and serving their patients.
  • Hope/faith is what I will need in situations that may not have the outcome that is best but by having hope and sharing my hope with the patient and their family I can make a difference.
