Live webcast featuring conversation with and lectures by Fred Gaiser of Luther Seminary and Marty Stortz of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. This year, both speakers will appear and Jim Childs will serve as moderator. Each speaker will present a 40 minute lecture with Q & A on a timely topic that speaks to both lay and clergy alike.

Marty Stortz is Associate Professor of Historical Theology and Ethics at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley where she has been on the faculty for twenty years. She is a popular conference speaker, has served on numerous theological task forces in ELCA, and has been active in the Graduate Theological Union since 1981. She is a member of several professional societies including the American Academy of Religion and Society of Christian Ethics. She is the author of numerous publications and a contributing writer to Faithful Conversation: Christian Perspectives on Homosexuality (Augsburg Fortress 2003). Dr. Stortz is a graduate of Carleton College and received her Masters and Ph.D. from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago.

Frederick J. Gaiser

Frederick J. Gaiser - Dr. Gaiser, ordained a Lutheran Pastor in 1969, has served parishes in South Dakota and Ohio. Frederick Gaiser is Professor of Old Testament at Luther Seminary where he has been on the faculty since 1973. He currently directs the Luther Seminary in Zimbabwe Program. Dr. Gaiser is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and has been the editor of Word and World since 1988. He has also served on the Inter-Lutheran Task Force on Occasional Services and Inter-Lutheran Commission on Worship. After receiving the BA Degree from Kalamazoo (Mich.) College in 1959, Gaiser earned a M. Div degree from Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary (now Trinity) in Columbus, Ohio in 1963 and received the Dr. Theo. Degree from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 1985. Gaiser edited and published The Quest for Jesus and the Christian Faith and is the author of David: God's Shepherd, Warrior and King (Inspire Bible Study Series).

Jim Childs - The Rev. James M. Childs, Jr., Ph.D. is Director for ELCA Studies on Sexuality and Joseph A Sittler Professor of Theology and Ethics at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. For twenty of his twenty-five years at Trinity, he served as Academic Dean. An ordained pastor for thirty-five years, Dr Childs is a member of the American Academy of Religion, a member of the Society of Christian Ethics, and past chair of the Board of the Division for Church and Society of the ELCA. Dr. Childs is the author of numerous publications including: Preaching Justice: The Ethical Vocation of Word and Sacrament Ministry, Trinity Press International, 2000.
