The Mast has been a reliable source of news and information for Pacific Lutheran University's community since 1935. The Mast's long history is marked with distinction, acclaimed as one of the Pacific Northwest's premier student publications. Today, it is routinely recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists as one of the best student newspapers in the region.

The Mast has a diverse staff that includes students with different academic majors and life experience, who publish each week's edition with enthusiasm, dedication, and professionalism.

No specific journalism course is required for student participation in The Mast, making it a unique learning opportunity for PLU's students. In fact, many of the newspaper's editors have declared majors outside of communication. This allows for greater diversity in story coverage and a balanced representation of current events.

The Mast offers a student's family a way to connect with the PLU community by providing in-depth coverage of campus events, guest speakers, sports, arts and entertainment, community news and student columnists.
