Converting a Word Document to HTML

This step-by-step tutorial will help you convert any Microsoft Word document (.doc) to a web page format (.html). Follow the steps below in the order they appear to easily create an HTML file from your Microsoft Word file.

1 Create a Word document using Microsoft Word, and save it normally by clicking File and then Save. Save
2 After your Word document has been saved, click on the File menu once again and this time click on Save as HTML...

Navigate to the folder that you want your new HTML file to reside in, and save. A dialog box may appear warning you about losing some formatting. Click OK if this occurs.

Save as HTML
3 Word will now open the document as it will appear in a web browser.

You now have the chance to change page settings such as background color and to add links.

Adjust Page Settings
4 When you are done adding the finishing touches to your new HTML file, save the document again by clicking File and then Save.

You will notice that instead of giving you the option to Save as HTML, Word now gives you the option of saving your HTML file as a Word document.

Save Changes
5 Congratulations! You have now converted a Microsoft Word document into an HTML document. You are now ready to learn how to use an FTP program so you can put your web page online.
