Professional Nursing Portfolio for Brittany Miller

WELCOME

Thank you for visiting my digital portfolio! My name is Brittany Miller and I am a Sophomore II in Pacific Lutheran University's Nursing program.

Why choose nursing?

Although it sounds cliché, ever since I was a child, I knew I wanted to help people. I would watch shows on The Learning Channel with my mom and the work that the health care professions were doing looking so intriguing and exciting, even  as a little girl. Health care was where I knew I wanted to be. Nursing was my calling...

I knew I wanted to help people, to be the one they could rely on for companionship, for reassurance and support, for information I knew I wanted to be the person that really made the difference in that person's life. I wanted to treat the person, the individual, the family, not just the disease of disorder. I wanted to have relationships with the people, no matter how short. Being a health care worker to me means more than providing the answers, it means providing the support, the comfort, and the means to an end. It is for these reasons I aspire to become a registered nurse, one of the most honorable careers the world has to offer.

Definition of Nursing

nursing Holistic care for any individual that promotes health (either primary, secondary, or tertiary) that has the aim of bettering the patient to their fullest potential. Nursing is not merely physical, but also mental and emotional, providing a supportive framework for health promotion. Nursings goal is to provide the means (through education) for the individual to re-establish their independence. The care provided is not to just be accepted but challenged to stimulate improvement of the care system for future patients.

Goals for the Future

MY GOALS                                                                        One year goal: My immediate goals are to succeed in my current classes (Pathophysiology, Professional Foundations, and Health Promotion and Assessment). I would like to apply myself to my fullest to reach the grades I want and know I can receive.goals

Five year goal: After graduation in 2010, I would love to be employed in a labor and delivery facility. It is my opinion that bringing a life into the world has to be one of the deepest, most meaningful experiences anyone can have, and I want to be a part of that for people.

Long-term goal: Eventually, most likely after establishing myself as a registered nurse, I am thinking more and more about becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife.
