Educated Service

NURSING OUTCOME

Enact role of service a a professionally educated member of society.

My Beliefs

» Nursing is a great way to provide services to the community. Through my education I will have knowledge that many will depend on me to have. I will be able to coordinate care with my knowledge. The services I will be able to provide will save people's lives and promote their goal of independence, including the care itself and enacting my role as educator.

» When I become a nurse in Labor and Delivery, I will be able to provide services through education to new mothers and fathers. The new parents will no doubt have many questions regarding what to expect with their new family member(s) and they will be able to look to me for advice and guidance.

Evidence in Nursing

» In N220, after learning the essential skills and techniques of basic nursing practice, we had to prove that we understood these scenarios by performing many of them on "Putting-it-all- Together" day. Please see my skills evaluation.

Service to the Community

To Date:

  • In the Fall of 2007, I donated to the Thanksgiving Basket fund through Delta Iota Chi. These baskets provided numerous families throughout the community with a hearty holiday meal.
  • Over the last two years I have donated to the KISS 106.1 One Big Kiss for Kids Radiothon for Children's Hospital, Donating a total of $175. I plan to continue to provide a means for the hospital's  research into treatments for childhood diseases.
  • Health Assessment and Promotion (N270) provided me with the opportunity to step out into the community and teach about a health topic prompted by Healthy People 2010. My group chose to address the problem of Childhood Obesity. We went into the community and presented using models, posters, samples, and events to explain the importance of exercise and a balanced diet in children to avoid obesity. We also presented the effects of childhood obesity, which can frequently lead to adult obesity and multiple negative health outcomes.
