NURSING OUTCOME
Assume responsibility and accountability for professional practice.
N220: Long-term Care
» While in the clinical rotation through long-term care, we were challenged with responsibility and needed to hold ourselves accountable for our actions at the facility. Before our "shifts" I made it a point to introduce myself and regularly meet with the regular CNA for the residents I was seeing that morning. This ensured that she not only knew that someone was there, but she knew my name and where to find me if something had gone awry.
» I also held myself accountable for my direct interactions with the clients. When I took vital signs for the residents, I made sure to put my initials on their chart.
» Lastly, my clinical group had meetings each day following our "shift" with the clinical instructor (Mindy Schaffner and Fen Fen Wu). We went over our performance and spoke about what went smoothly and discussed other aspects that did not. Each day I notified the CNA and the charge nurse before leaving the facility so that they knew they were to their role as the patient's primary caregiver, responsibility turning over my morning's work.
Showing responsibility away from the bedside...
» Each year, in order to continue with my clinical practice, I will have to hold my self accountable for keeping up with my immunizations and turning them in on time. This year, because of summer trips I unfortunately forgot did not realize the due date had been fast approaching and was a few days late turning the forms in. I plan to do be more responsible over this summer and get them in before the due date. This will not only save my money but will ensure that I will be able to participate in the rewarding clinical experience from beginning to end. |
