Effective use of technology and information systems involves demonstrated understanding
and application of the use of technology as a
personal tool to access information, interpret, synthesize, and communicate
ideas to others using state of the art retrieval, analysis, and presentation
tools.
Students will demonstrate the ability to (1) search for
information, (2) analyze data, (3) coordinate research efforts,
and (4) communicate their conclusions to others using appropriate software
tools. Criteria for effectiveness include clarity of the presentation,
organization of ideas and information, the format for citations, their ability
to support an argument, and their ability to convey the intended message.
Each student should have a basic understanding of computing
concepts and develop the skills necessary to ensure that information technology
is an advantage in advancing his/her career. Throughout their coursework,
students shall demonstrate the use of appropriate software and technology for
effective communication, critical thinking, and teamwork. Students shall understand the role of technology as a
strategic tool which organizations use to create value for internal and external
stakeholders.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the management
control issues associated with contemporary uses of information technology.
Students should be able to demonstrate the fact that they can identify both
technology-related issues (e.g., privacy, data security, organizational
structure in a networked or virtual enterprise) and potential solutions to those
problems. The following skills have been
identified:
