Whistle Stop Ale House
  [Home]

The Whistle Stop Ale House is about a 10-minute walk from my home in Renton. At the time of the case, Jeff and Melinda Lawrence, owners of the Whistle Stop, were faced with a decision about moving their business. Their lease was running out and would not be renewed. Two alternative locations were available. One involved purchasing an old grocery store; the other involved leasing space from an existing business. Both would require significant remodeling and both involved both quantitative and qualitative decisions.

We will cover the case over two days. On day 1 [tentatively April 21st], we will cover the lease option and talk about setting up the Excel analysis. On April 26th, we will complete the analysis and discuss the pros and cons of the two alternatives. I am hoping the Jeff and/or Melinda Lawrence will be able to be with us on the 26th to provide insight into their perceptions about the move, and to update us on the events since the time of the case. If there is sufficient interest, we can try to arrange a get-together at the Whistle Stop on Friday, April 29th [bring your own money]. The photo at the right is what the Whistle Stop looks like today. I will have specific details about the assignment as the due date approaches.
