Basic Advice for all students, young
and old:
- Get plenty of sleep. More than you get now.
- Eat right. Drink enough clean water.
- If you must ingest alcohol or other mood-altering
substances (and, really, must you?), do so in moderation.
- Train yourself to work hard, and to concentrate.
Find what works for you.
- Be cheerful. Do something nice for someone else
at least once in the morning, and at least once in the afternoon. Writing
a letter to parents, to a friend, to a sibling or to an aging relative,
counts.
- Find a way to make a difference. If you don’t
have one now, join a student group that tries.
- Read through the university catalog. It has
answers to most of your questions about requirements, majors, and rules of
the game.
