The Women Lutes have had great success at home in Olson Auditorium and, frankly, not much luck while on the road as evidenced by last weekend’s conference losses at Whitman and Whitworth. The friendly confines of The Names Family Court in Olson Auditorium will hopefully be the tonic for the Lutes this weekend when they host a pair of conference foes going in opposite directions. Linfield, tied for seventh in the conference standings, will be here on Friday, January 23rd. George Fox, unbeaten in 15 games and ranked No. 10 in the country, will play the Lutes on Saturday night. The Lutes are 8-0 at home, 1-4 on the road and 0-1 in neutral-site games.
The Men Lutes received their first NWC win at Whitman, shooting 60 percent from the floor and finishing with six players in double figures, Pacific Lutheran picked up its first NWC victory of the season with a 105-97 decision over Whitman College on Friday night in Walla Walla. Nick Stackhouse combined 25 points with 14 rebounds to power the Lutes. Joining Stackhouse in double-figure scoring were Vic Bull and Kyle MacTaggart with 18 points apiece, Tony Polis with 15, Norman Edwards Jr. with 11 and Curtis Trondsen with 10. PLU led 51-42 at halftime and stretched its lead to 17 points, 74-57, with about 14 minutes left in the second half. After Whitman pulled to within 90-84 with four minutes left to play, Bull answered with two free throws, sparking an 11-2 PLU scoring spree that iced the victory for the visitors.
