We love spring break for simple reasons: it is always fun, usually restful, sometimes a bit crazy, but always better for students than the week of test which precedes it.
Here are some tips the Student Life Council and Lutefit Health and Wellness Committee will send to your student to help them keep healthy and safe over spring break. Since all of you care for the health and well being of your student as well, we thought you would like to hear our advice too!
If traveling your student should…
- Make a plan and leave it with someone at home
- Bring emergency contact information
- Bring money or a calling card for emergencies
- Don’t forget a passport of crossing an international border
The Bureau of Consular Affairs provides additional information for students planning to travel abroad; such as
obtaining a passport and
additional safety information.
If looking to recharge his or her battery, your student should…
- Eat healthy, well-balanced meals
- Get at least 8 hours of sleep each night
- Do something active at least one time each day
If partying your student should…
- Know their limit and stay within it!
- Keep their drink in sight
- Designate a driver who will commit to not drinking alcohol for the night
If in the sun your student should…
- Avoid mid-day sun (10am-3pm)
- Keep hydrated with water (alcohol and caffeine can increase dehydration)
- 9 out of 10 women prefer sun block over wrinkles (men also!)
If meeting new people your student should…
- Not rush into a new relationship without careful thought
- Set clear expectations for the relationship
- Remember: consent for sex cannot be legally given if you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Your students are important to us, too. Lets help them have a safe and healthy spring break!
