Secrets of the Parent eNews

Fall is now well underway and hopefully the Parent eNews is a publication you’ve become familiar with.  Although Parent eNews is filled with different content each month, we understand that, as creatures of habit, you have probably developed a system which you use to peruse your monthly eNews. You browse the article titles for anything particularly important or interesting to you, click to enlarge the pictures that might have students or staff you recognize, and jot down a few bits of information to make sure your student hasn’t missed an amazing opportunity. This “system” is effective, no doubt, but we’re going to encourage you to take part in the full Parent eNews experience! Without exploration, you may not have found everything that is accessible through this one email, until now!  The time has come, this year, to remedy this situation by revealing to you the secrets of the eNews!

1) The fact that many of you cannot view the full html email is an ongoing obstacle we are trying to eliminate in order to provide you with the best possible email publication! This means some of you are missing out on beautiful pictures, artful design and more! In order to enjoy the eNews as we intend you to, you must receive the html version of this email. Fortunately, there are a few ways to make this happen. At the top of your eNews a link appears that says “If you cannot view html emails, please click the link below”. By clicking that link, you will see the full eNews as a webpage rather than an email. The second, and more permanent, way to fix this problem is to change your options or settings in your email program to accept html emails.

2) Surely many of you are familiar with the concept of an eCard.  This virtual card is delivered as fast as email but with the same aesthetic appeal as a greeting card.  What a convenient way to send a quick “Thinking of You” or get in a last minute “Happy Birthday” wish! Good News, you now have the opportunity to show your Lute Pride through an eCard.  Among the buttons at the top of your eNews is “eCards”.  Click here and personalize your PLU eCard with music and a message all on a PLU photo!  Athletics, classic PLU icons, PLU abroad and Those were the Days are a few of the categories of photos to choose from!

3) Now, say you are reading an intriguing article about the Secrets of the eNews and you find yourself asking, “What if I have more questions?" Who is the PLU expert on this topic?  Look at the bottom of the article and you'll find the author, any website related to this article and our office contact information! The same is true for all eNews articles!  Questions about Parent eNews in general, feedback or article ideas can always be submitted via the “Contact Us” button at the top of your eNews, we welcome all input!

4) Among the buttons at the top of your eNews is “Slideshow”. This button links to a slideshow created especially for you! Different each month, these slideshows feature the latest and greatest on campus! This month the slideshow has pictures from Homecoming 2008.  Students showed their star quality at Songfest, a Lip-Sync and dance competition that is an annual Homecoming tradition.  The various ways the halls chose to incorporate the athletics and film soundtrack themes were creative to say the least!  Free Kettle Corn and student performances, among other activities, were enjoyed by the whole PLU community at Friday afternoon’s Lute Fest.  Class reunions, the Celebration Brunch, Homecoming Football Game and the dance at Hotel Murano made for a busy Saturday as well!

5) Do you find yourself upset that you let the last few months pass without noticing all these amazing secrets? No need to worry, because our last secret is this…on the PLU Parents webpage you can access the most current edition of the eNews along with an archive of every eNews that has ever been sent out!
