Tips for new parents
Adjusting to college life is just as trying on parents as it is for
students who are usually leaving home for the first time. We took some
notes from a recent presentation given by Laura Majovski, Vice
President of Student Life and created a few handy checklists to help
with your own transition.
Students,
family and friends all arrived on campus starting August 31. In between
moving in and meeting with Student Services, many parents took
advantage of the orientation activities in the University Center. One
of the most popular events was a parent panel made up of several
members of our Parent's Council (past and present), anchored by
Lauralee Hagen, Director of Alumni and Parent Relations.
Once
a year, new parents to the university receive a printed handbook in the
mail, packed with information about campus, the life of their student
and PLU's policies on everything from parking to paying the bills. This
online version is brimming with the same content and direct links to
offices across campus. Getting the information you need has never been
easier.
Pacific Lutheran University has adopted a policy to protect the privacy
of education records. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of
1974, popularly known as the "Buckley Amendment" and carrying the
acronym "FERPA", governs the university's collection, retention and
dissemination of information about students.
Whether you just tuned in or need a reminder you can always get past articles in the eNews Archive.
As we get closer to Spring commencement the number of helpful tidbits
and specific information about all aspects of your student's experience
at PLU plus answers to your most pressing questions will always be a
