Secrets of the Parent eNews
After receiving the Parent eNews each month for awhile now, we are sure you have developed a system. You read the article titles; click to enlarge the pictures that look interesting, jot down a few dates to make sure your student hasn’t missed a deadline. Well, we’re here to tell you that by sticking to “the system,” you are missing out on the full Parent eNews experience! To make sure you know everything that is accessible through this email that appears in your inbox monthly, we are going to reveal to you the secrets of the eNews!
1) First, have you ever noticed the stamp that sits in the top right-hand corner of your eNews? Sure, its purpose is to ensure the eNews is portrayed as a virtual postcard arriving in your inbox, but it is so much more than that! With one click, that stamp expands to a full picture with a description of some of the most iconic buildings, symbols and people of PLU. And yes, it changes each month!
2) In the process of tracking the success of Parent eNews, we have found that many of you cannot view the full html email! This means you might be missing out on beautiful pictures, artful design and all! In order to enjoy the eNews as we intended you to, you must receive the html version of this email. Fortunately, there are a few ways to make this happen. At the top of your eNews you see a link that says “If you cannot view html emails, please click the link below”. By clicking that link, you will see the full eNews as a webpage rather than an email. The second, and more permanent, way to fix this problem is to change your options or settings in your email program to accept html emails.
3) Now, say you are reading an intriguing article about the Secrets of the eNews and you find yourself asking, “What if I have more questions? Who is the PLU expert on this topic?” Well, if you take a look at the right-hand side of your screen you’ll find the author, any website related to this article and our office’s contact information! The same is true for all eNews articles!
4) We realize you are receiving this eNews, and reading it, because you have students at PLU. What you may not realize is that we have students too! At the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations we have an awesome team of student interns who make sure everyone who walks through our doors is welcomed with great hospitality. You can learn more about our students by clicking on their faces in the picture from the “contact us” button.
5) Among the buttons at the top of your eNews is “Slideshow”. This button links to a slideshow created especially for parents! Different each month, these slideshows feature the latest and greatest on campus! This month the slideshow has pictures from Student Alumni Association’s History Week events. The Legacy Dessert Soiree was a great opportunity for students of past PLU graduates to gather and enjoy old yearbook pictures of their parents along with some amazing memories and pictures parents sent in from their days as a lute! The Tables for 8 Career Mentoring Dinner also drew a crowd and paved the way for some great networking between current student and alumni to help answer some tough questions about life after college.
6) Do you find yourself upset that you let the whole fall pass without noticing all these amazing secrets? No need to worry, because our last secret is this…on the PLU Parents webpage you can access the most current edition of the eNews along with an archive of every eNews that has ever been sent out!
