Hi, I am Mimi Granlund, a first-year student at Pacific Lutheran University. I plan on double majoring in mathematics and art with an emphasis in drawing. I decided to attend PLU because during my first visit to campus as a senior in high school, I immediately felt at home. On my campus tour, current PLU students would see us, a group of wide-eyed high school kids, and give us a warm smile or hold the door open as we entered a building. Nothing has changed, PLU is filled with genuine and friendly people who reach out to other students everyday.
My first semester has exceeded every expectation I had for college. However, it has been a very busy one. With so much to get involved with on campus, I constantly found myself wishing there was more time in the day to attend all the events. The main activity I participated in was playing varsity women’s soccer for the Lutes. This season was one of the best I have ever been a part of because of the sense of community and support amongst the team members.
This sense of community was not limited just to sports teams, but exists all throughout campus. Transitioning to living in the dorms was very easy for me thanks to the abundance of hall and wing events to help build community. My favorite part of this university is that it offers everything I wished for in a school. The endless list of clubs, sports teams and programs allowed me to pursue my passion without having to sacrifice any of them. I have not been at PLU for long, but I already cannot wait for what the next four years will bring and for all I will learn inside the classroom as well as outside.
