Along with the American Cancer Society, PLU will host its third Relay for Life this year through the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life is an event on campus to honor cancer survivors, remember those that were lost to cancer and help raise money to fight the disease. On April 25 & 26, Relay teams will gather on the PLU track and camp out over night, and have at least one team member on the track throughout the whole night. The event is a great chance to mingle with fellow Lutes and have a great time helping fight cancer. “It’s a coping skill to manage such a huge disease,” Laura Comstock, co-chair for Relay for Life, said about the event. “There is no way I as one person can make it go away, but this is a way to cope and do my part.” Our goal this year is to raise $60,000, which is $3,000 more than PLU raised last year.
Here is how you can help Relay for Life at PLU:
· Participate on a Relay team! Our goal is to recruit 65 teams and raise $60,000 incorporating students, alumni, faculty, parents, and survivors with a television show theme, “Tune in to Find a Cure!” You can sign up as a team captain and
create a team or join an already existing team.
· Walk in the Survivor Lap! Cancer Survivors and Caregivers are encouraged to join the Relay event and participate in the very first lap of the relay; it would be a huge honor to have you with us! Please e-mail
plurelay@plu.edu if you would like to participate or if you would like us to contact a Survivor on your behalf.
· Sponsor PLU’s Relay! Our hope is to produce an event without costs, so we are looking for businesses and individuals who are interested in sponsoring through monetary or in-kind donations. Please email
plurelay@plu.edu for more information about sponsorship opportunities.
· Make a donation! You can donate to the American Cancer Society through PLU’s Relay for Life website. You may either make a general donation or donate to a specific team.
Email
plurelay@plu.edu and let us know how you would like to participate. See you on the track!
