Campus Ministry:
We’ll Keep the Light on for You!

Working for the Campus Ministry Office is not a 9 to 5 ministry.  While many of the more well-known programs like Chapel and University Congregation are held during “business hours,” the Campus Ministry Office is a lively place in the evening, too.  Here are just a few examples…

The Campus Ministry Student Interns created a small group experience for students called Chips & Salsa.  They gather on Monday evenings at 9 pm in the University Commons to view a short video. Then, in small groups they discuss the theology of the video and how it relates to student life…and yes, they do all of this while enjoying chips and salsa!

The Student Interns have also created a community building event once a month—usually on a Saturday night.  It may be a games night or a cookie decorating night but the opportunity is created to come together and to get to know other Lutes in a relaxed atmosphere.

Holden Evening Prayer is held each Tuesday of the academic year in Tower Chapel at 9 pm.  Campus Ministry’s Worship and Music Coordinator Elise Erickson '03, along with a number of students, leads this reflective worship service.  Holden Evening Prayer is so popular that many times it is “standing room only.”

Finally, University Pastors Nancy Connor and Dennis Sepper can be found on several nights (along with weekends) visiting with students, making hospital calls and, particularly in the spring, doing premarital work with students who will be married in their home congregations over the summer months.

As you can see, there is a nocturnal side to the work and ministry of the Campus Ministry Office as the staff seeks to serve students, faculty and staff with very busy schedules and very busy lives.
