The Best Is Yet To Come
Family Weekend 2009 was an incredible success! We were excited to see so many families on campus, that rainy weekend of November, to share with their students many wonderful memories.
The festivities started bright and early Saturday morning when a number of students and their family members came to the University Center to attend class. From a look at the Global Education Program here at PLU, to a tasty lesson on the Chemistry of Chocolate, attendees had their pick on what to learn while back in school! Afterword, the “Lute Bunch” gathered in Olson for the annual “Lute Brunch”, where people heard from President Loren Anderson, Lauralee Hagen, Executive Director of the Office of Constituent Relations and Teddy Krogh, ASPLU President.
Later in the day, a group of courageous and supportive fans braved the rain to watch the football team beat Menlo College 35-17. Alternatives included a fun and interesting visit to the Tacoma Art Museum and an exciting soccer game where the Lutes won 2-1 against cross-town-rival UPS.
The busy weekend was not over, however, as a night full of talent and entertainment was ahead. Family Weekend participants filled Olson Auditorium as they gathered to watch some of PLU’s most talented students compete for “Best of Show”. The winner was a humorous interpretation of “Peter Pan” by freshman Joseph Baken.
To conclude this wonderful weekend, families gathered in Mary Baker Russell Hall for a continental breakfast and to attend Family Weekend Worship. Thank you to all the families that traveled from all over the country to PLU and helped us make this event a shining success!
