The campus community has just concluded the academic year with many of us now beginning summer break and others continuing on with summer school. While it is a time of transition on campus, there is no doubt that all of us are so very much looking forward to your student’s arrival and the start of school in the fall.
You will soon discover that teaching and learning flourish here. I believe that there is no better time to be in college preparing for a career and for a life of service. And there is no better place to be than here at PLU where dedication to academic quality and opportunity is unwavering.
What we call the PLU experience includes our commitment to doing everything necessary to maintain the excellence of our programs, our faculty and our staff:
Excellence is evident in our vision of PLU as a globally focused university – this year earning the Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization, making PLU the first private university in the West to be so honored.
Excellence is also found this year in the College Sustainability Report Card: PLU is one of only 26 universities in the country to receive the top grade for environmental stewardship.
Excellence is unmistakable in the support and guidance provided by dedicated faculty mentors who teach and inspire our students in every class and laboratory and studio, as well as on the courts and playing fields.
And finally, of course excellence can be fun as well. There has been no more fitting example of that than the victory late this spring of our women’s Ultimate Frisbee team. They won the Division III college national championship!
We are grateful that you have chosen to partner with us in the mission and the work of Pacific Lutheran University. We welcome you and your student into the campus community. I know that you will help make next year a remarkable one in so many ways.
