Here are some tips from the Student Life Council and the Lutefit Health and Wellness Committee to help your student stay healthy and safe over spring break.
If traveling your student should…
- Make a plan and leave it with someone at home
- Bring emergency contact information
- Bring money or a calling card for emergencies
- Do not forget a passport for crossing an international border
If looking to rest and relax, your student should…
- Eat healthy, well-balanced meals
- Get at least 8 hours of sleep each night
- Do something active at least one time each day
If partying your student should…
- Know their limit and stay within it!
- Keep their drink in sight
- Designate a driver who will commit to not drinking alcohol for the night
If in the sun your student should…
- Avoid mid-day sun (10am-3pm)
- Keep hydrated with water (alcohol and caffeine can increase dehydration)
- Apply sunblock frequently
If meeting new people your student should…
- Not rush into a new relationship without careful thought
- Set clear expectations for the relationship
- Remember: consent for sex cannot be legally given if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs
The Bureau of Consular Affairs provides additional information for students planning to travel abroad; such as
obtaining a passport and additional
safety information.
Your students are important to us, too. Let's help them have a safe and healthy spring break!
